A stunning venue... especially when you get on the bream

There are two lakes at Hardwick Hall, the Great Pond and Miller’s Pond. The lakes are on the Hardwick Estate and are close to J29 of the M1. Unlike a commercial which was probably dug out sometime in the past 10 years, these lakes date back over 200 years!

The lakes are not as deep as you’d expect. The deeper sections can be found around the dam walls. Tactics wise, adjust your approach to the time of year, but be confident. There are some big bream in here and if you want to catch them you need to make sure you won’t be plagued by bits – you also need to fish with tackle that can get them on the bank.

If you like dogs, this could be the perfect fishing venue. The footpaths are very popular with dog walkers, you will see dogs of all shapes and sizes skipping past.
