Nanpantan Reservoir is located close to the Leicestershire town of Loughborough, it may have the reputation as being a carp water, but there are plenty of silverfish to target. This could be one of those venues where you have to put a few visits in order to get an understanding of the water, but if you put the effort in then you should see some big rewards.
The reservoir generally fishes well all year round, if you target the silverfish in winter then you should get plenty of bites, but the fishing does get more prolific in the warmer months. As you look at the water from the car park you will find the shallowest water at this end, this will be the best place to target the silvers – that has the added bonus of saving you a long walk!
All tactics should work, pole at 10m will give you around 7ft of water, further out then you might be best to fish on a feeder or straight lead. If you fancy trying something different then try fishing a sliding float – that extra distance could give you the edge over other anglers. A ground bait approach with maggots, casters and pellets will work well for all species, try fishing larger baits like corn or chopped worm to tempt the bigger fish.
