Wold View Fisheries is a smashing fishing venue which is located in Claxby, Lincolnshire. This is a popular place to go fishing, it is a fantastic day ticket and match venue for local anglers. For people who live a bit further away, it’s a popular holiday option. If you and your club fancy running a festival, the accommodation along with the fishing options make this a great choice.
The venue features 6 lakes in total:
Gold Lake – the largest lake on the fishery with 41 pegs. The pegs are fairly well spread out, so there is plenty of water to go at. There are ropes in the center of the water which control where people can fish – these no doubt stop a lot of arguments in matches! There are plenty of carp in here plus a good head of silvers. Most tactics work if they are toned down to the suit the time of year. Don’t be scared of putting plenty of bait in during the warmer months, those carp get hungry! There are some big fish to be found in the margins.
Silver Lake – a well stocked lake which features 3 islands. Most pegs offer open water to fish to, unless you are have an island to focus on. There is a good head of carp and F1s, these are likely to be the main targets, but there are good numbers of silver fish. Most tactics can play a part, method, straight lead, pellet waggler, pole on the deck and shallow. The margins are productive, so make sure you focus there at the right time. Some pegs are a big snaggy, so take care and be prepared to lose some gear.
Bronze Lake – a smaller lake with carp that go to 20lb! There are no matches on this water, the water is dedicated to pleasure anglers.
Ultimate Lake – another well stocked pond which responds well to most tactics. There is a good head of carp and F1s. There are some proper munters in here which can be caught down the edge later on. The margins are quite shallow, but the big fish can still be found there.
Island Pond – a lake which features a central island. A great spot for juniors to hook into some fish
Canal Lake – an oval lake with a big difference to a normal canal – no boats or bikes, a hopefully a great days sport! This can be a fairly moody water, fish your way into it and be wary of putting in too much bait at the start and killing your peg off.
There are a number of matches held at Wolds View through the week. There are open matches on the weekend, plus evenings during the summer. The upcoming matches are listed in the cafe. If you plan on fishing a specific water, you may need to check in advance.
Onsite there are plenty of options. A cafe provides a range of drinks and snacks – they do a solid breakfast with some tasty local sausage! There is a small tackle shop which sells a selection of tackle and shelf baits. There are toilets, plenty of car parking and space for touring caravans.
There are a number of self-catering lodges which can be rented out for several days. They offer very comfortable accommodation and have plenty of bedroom options. The availability and prices can be found on the Wold View website. There is a supermarket in Market Rasen and plenty of other shops if you need to stock up on anything. The local takeaways can deliver food too. All of the lodges have hot tubs.. what better way is there to de-slime after a session on the bank? They are very effective at getting green Swim Stim stains off your hands.
