A bit like fishing in a garden – careful shipping your pole back!

Oak Tree Lakes Fishery in Brinsley, Nottinghamshire is a small fishery that not many people are familiar with. If you fancy a few hours sport then you should have an exciting session where you will catch a wide range of different species. The venue is full of fish, it is one of those places where when the float goes under you can never predict what will be on the hook, this is a nice change to some places where you just catch F1s or carp each time.

A tench from Oak Tree Lane
A nice and slimey stench!

An ide from Oak Tree Lane
A chunky ide that gave a decent scrap.

The venue initially had one small pond, but in more recent years a second much larger pond was added at the back of the property. Many people who drive past and see the first pond from the road could dismiss the venue as a small puddle that isn’t worth the effort, but they are wrong. If you haven’t been before, look for a dark brick house with a big set of wooden gates next to it. The gates may be closed, so to get in you’ll have to knock on the door to ask them to let you in.

Fishing wise, most tactics should result in plenty of fish, you just need to adjust your bait and feeding to suit the conditions. The lakes have a depth of around 5 feet in the deepest parts, then up to about a foot in the margins. A lot of the better fish can be caught close in, so don’t make the mistake of only fishing in the open water.

The venue does play host to a number a lot of matches all year round. If you are planning a session then to avoid disappointment when you arrive, it is advisable to check in advance that you can fish where you’d like.
