A small fishery with some good fish lurking in the depths

Yew Tree Fishery, or Fry’s as a lot of people know it by, is a small 3 pond fishery located in Westwood, Nottinghamshire. This is a good place to visit if you need a confidence boosting session where you can put a few fish in the net.

A carp from Yew Tree Ponds

There are 3 lakes in total which are fed by a small brook that runs alongside. There are plenty of small fish along with some decent sized carp – the carp run close to 20lbs. Don’t make the mistake of opting for gear that is too light, if you hook into a big fish then you want to make sure you get it on the bank. It may be wise to fish with a more positive approach than you would expect, there are a lot of smaller rudd and roach which may plague your session.

Top Methods

There are no secrets to putting a good weight together here, just make sure you fish with baits that suit the time of year – make sure you don’t over feed in the winter. As with anywhere, don’t forget to fish in the margins. In the warmer months the carp can be caught on the surface using bread or dog biscuits – is there a better way to catch carp?
