Harthill Reservoir

A fantasic carp and silvers open water venue

Harthill Reservoir is a large water that is located on the outskirts of Sheffield. Don’t be intimidated by the size of the water, there are plenty of fish to be caught, especially during the warmer months. There is a large head of carp that can be targetted using match style tactics or a specimen approach.

The water is over 30 acres in size and is split into 3 main sections. A popular area to fish is the dam wall and then the bank further round facing the sailing club. It might not be the easiest place to fish, in order to be comfortable a decent seatbox and possibly a platform might be needed. The dam wall is concrete and set at quite a steep angle. The far side is quite muddy and shallow, so sitting out in the water will make things easier.

Barbless hooks only
Single hook rigs only (except pike fishing)
No braided mainline (except spod, marker or pike fishing)
All nets must be dry before fishing
Fishing must be from designated pegs only
No keepnets (except for authorised matches)
1 rod per permit (maximum of 2 rods)
No bait boats
No bread or floating baits
Pike fishing from 1 October 31 March only
Unhooking mat or cradle must be used when fishing for specimen fish
No fires or barbecues (cooking stoves are permitted)
Don’t leave any rubbish – take it home or use the bins
Children must be supervised by an adult

Day Tickets, Membership and Prices

The fishing at Harthill Reservoir is charged at the following rates:

Adult (one rod): £7
Concessions (one rod): £6
Second rod: £4
Evening (adult or concessions): £6
Night (24 hours, two rods): £20

The tickets are available from the bailiff on the bank – if you start fishing they will come round to see you during your session.

Directions

It is a bit of a funny one to find, especially on your first visit. It feels like you are going to visit someone rather than going to catch some fish. You have to drive through the housing estate along Calver Close. There’s a sharp turn on the bend into Calver Way, follow it round and then you will be led into the car park.
